The causes of traffic congestion

Traffic congestion occurs when a volume of traffic or modal split generates demand for space greater than the available road capacity. There are a number of specific circumstances which cause or aggravate congestion. Most of them reduce the capacity of a road at a given point or over a certain length, or increase the number of vehicles required for a given volume of people or goods. Beside that, traffic congestion is recurring, and is attributed to sheer weight of traffic. Most of the rest is attributed to traffic incidents, road works and weather events. Speed and flow can also affect network capacity though the relationship is complex.
Traffic research still cannot fully predict under which conditions a "traffic jam"may suddenly occur. It has been found that individual incidents such as accidents or even a single car braking heavily in a previously smooth flow may cause ripple effects which then spread out and create a sustained traffic jam .

Disadvantages of traffic congestion

There are the negative effect because of traffic congestion:

Wasting time of motorists and passengers- As a non-productive activity for most people, congestion reduces regional economic health.

Delays-which may result in late arrival for employment, meetings, and education, resulting in lost business, disciplinary action or other personal losses.

Inability to forecast travel time accurately, leading to drivers allocating more time to travel "just in case", and less time on productive activities.

Wasted fuel increases air pollution and carbon dioxide emissions which may contribute to global warming, owing to increased idling, acceleration and braking. Increased fuel use may also in theory cause a rise in fuel costs.

Wear and tear on vehicles as a result of idling in traffic and frequent acceleration and braking, leading to more frequent repairs and replacements.

Stressed and frustrated motorists, encouraging road rage and reduced health of motorists

Emergencies-blocked traffic may interfere with the passage of emergency vehicles traveling to their destinations where they are urgently needed.

Spillover effect from congested main arteries to secondary roads and side streets as alternative routes are attempted which may affect neighborhood amenity and real estate prices.

What is traffic congestion

Traffic congestion is a condition on networks that occurs as use increases, and is characterized by slower speeds, longer trip times, and increased queueing. The most common example is the physical use of roads by vehicles. When traffic demand is great enough that the interaction between vehicles slows the speed of the traffic stream, congestion is incurred. As demand approaches the capacity of a road, extreme traffic congestion sets in. When vehicles are fully stopped for periods of time, this is also known as a traffic jam.

effects and solutions..

The problems occurred in Puduraya had caused various effects arise. This effect give more evil to users compare the benefits. The Government should fine the best way to curb this problem effects to passengers. The users will be lost belief to use service provided here too. Traffic Congestion would continue to happen if neglected by Government. Then, snatch thief criminal cannot be reduced because no strict control from the authorities. It is necessary to monitor this crime from go from bad to worse. The company of bus would continue conducting their cheating. This case can cause trouble to the passengers if lack of control from party concerned.

Meanwhile, the beggars will last carry out their activity with beg money to people. Sometimes, we could not determine whether they get truth or no to beg money to people here. Thus, the authorities must watch tight this activity from continue to spread. Lastly, the implementation and masterplans should be done to decrease problem occurred in this Puduraya Station.

problems in Pudu station..

There are a lot of problems happened in this terminal. All of this are burden the passengers. The problems included traffic congestions, criminal cases, cheating cases, crowded, lack of facilities and so on. Apart from that, traffic congestion always happened especially during holidays. This is because Puduraya Station located in Kuala Lumpur City which is crowded with transports. Furthermore, it’s also obstacles bus trips because of stuck in station exit. Then, it is takes a long time to past this traffic jammed.
Meanwhile, in criminal cases we can see that a lot of snatch happened in this station especially in night coaches. There are a lot of passengers ever be a victims from this criminal. Customary, these snatch activities also targeting foreign particular. After that, Puduraya Station also exposed to cheating cases. Many passenger ever been cheated whether by company of bus, beggar and so on. There is bus company case cheating in selling bus ticket Then, this terminal also crowded with people everyday but it can be very seriously during celebration seasons. Lastly, the Government still had a lot of facilities to be improved for passenger. This improvement is necessary to give satisfied for all customers

Facilities in Puduraya to be improved..

The government plans to improve the facilities at the crowded Puduraya bus terminal for the comfort of passengers and users. Onother place to be given attention was Plaza Rakyat, which was supposed to be a transport hub but the project had been abandoned since 1992.The ministry has negotiated with the developer and we've given them three months to complete the negotiation, failing which the ministry will terminate the contract with the developer and find a new way to solve the problem.
On Jalan Masjid India, there was a suggestion to construct a 13-storey building which would have a parking lot, hall, futsal court and badminton court, to further develop this popular shopping area

hurgghhhh!!!!

I'm felt so lazy to do my homework.I felt so sleepy. But,there's a lot of task should be done.Need a lot of concerntartion and perfectionist.I'm scared if my task will be reject from my lecturer.Oh, God help me!!!Give me strenghts to fight the challenge.Really challenging actually.

public transportations..

Public transport offers alternative modes of transport to the private motor car. Public transport, including trains, trams and buses, can relieve traffic congestion and reduce air pollution from road transport. The use of public transport must be encouraged if a sustainable transport policy is to be developed.
Railways are efficient forms of transport that use existing tracks, and therefore use less land than roads. One commuter train may hold hundreds of passengers which may otherwise have travelled to work by car. Although trains can reduce road congestion, it is important to remember that they still contribute to air pollution both directly and indirectly. Diesel engines produce a large amount of particulates. Electric trains do not release air pollutants directly, but their electricity produced "upstream" by power stations can contribute to acid rain and global warming if they use fossil fuels.
Buses are generally recognised as an environmentally friendly form of transport, particularly in relation to the number of car journeys needed to carry the same number of passengers. A bus uses less fuel per person carried, and hence less fuel than the number of cars needed to replace it. However, buses do contribute to air quality problems, particularly in cities. Buses in the UK are mainly powered by diesel engines, with a handful of alternative fuels under trial. Improvements in the emission performance of buses are likely to be needed in the future.
There has been a resurgence in the use of transport such as trams and light railway, which have a lower environmental impact than buses. Trams use smaller vehicles and tighter rail tracks than conventional trains, which enables them to be constructed within existing built-up areas. They also run at a lower cost than trains, and they can easily be expanded to accommodate increases in passengers.
An example of a successful light rail transport scheme is the Metrolink, developed in Manchester in 1991. Sections of the Metrolink run parallel to other vehicles in the existing road network. Since its successful instalment, additional extensions have been developed or planned to surrounding suburbs.
Public transport should form part of a wider integrated sustainable transport strategy. However, the cost and convenience of use of public transport needs to be lowered to encourage people to use this as an alternative to personal vehicles.

peoples waiting

public transportation

First of all, me have to identity the real factors that attribute to the problems happened in the public transportation. First, we have to look at the rising demands from the users of transportation itself. Peoples need to works and they using the public transportation to go to the office and going back to home. We cannot stop the peoples from using the public transportation as the already get used with their routine. To stop peoples from using the public transportation can only during more chaos in the public transportation and also in the society. So as a solution, the only way that me can used is by expand or enhance the public transportation service itself on this situation government had to play their role by spending an amount of money on the public transportation. The money can be used to upgrade the infrastructure of the public transportation such as the bus terminal or the commuter station. In the other word, the gout have enhance the quality and efficiency of the public transportation system. When the service of public transportation done well, the peoples wont complain anymore about the traffic jam, late or not enough bus and this the people can work without any stress. So by spending more money in the public transportation is actually means a good investment for the economic growth for our country.

History of Keretapi Tanah Melayu ( KTM )

In Malaysia, the railway network system has always been a key component in the development of the country's growth. The first railway track was built in 1885 from Taiping to Port Weld. From a mere 12.8 kilometers of track, the network grew as Malaysia developed and prospered.
KTM Berhad was corporatised on 1st August 1992 following the passing of two Railway Bills. Although still wholly-owned by the government, KTM Berhad currently operates as a private sector organisation, responsible for its revenue and some of its development activities.
With its service covering the length and breadth of the country, KTM Berhad runs its train on a metre gauge of 1000mm, over a track length of 2 226.90 kilometers.
KTM Berhad's main objective is to provide a modern, efficient and competitive rail transport system.
As of 1st August 1997, Marak Unggul - a consortium of Renong Berhad, Diversified Resources Berhad, Bolton Berhad and Jasa Meta - Joined hands with KTM Berhad in what has been termed as 'management partnering'. Management partnering can be regarded as a transition stage between corporatisation and privatisation. The objective is to complete the re-engineering which began in 1992.

STAR-LRT..really useful in people daily life

The STAR system was completed in time for the Commonwealth Games that was hosted by Kuala Lumpur in 1998. About 70 per cent of spectators of the international sports event travelled to the Bukit Jalil stadium by STAR. Currently running through 25 stations covering the far corners of the Klang Valley, the system links Sentul Timur, Ampang and Sri Petaling through the city centre.
Prices for a single trip ticket range from 70 sen to RM2.90, depending on the distance and destination. The train frequencies also vary, arriving at stations every four to six minutes during peak hours (between 7.30am to 9.00am on Mondays to Saturdays and between 4.30pm and 7.30pm on Mondays to Fridays). At all other times, train frequencies are reduced to a train every six to ten minutes.
The train service starts at all stations at 6.00am. The last trains from Ampang and Sri Petaling to Sentul Timur leave at 11.30pm whereas the last trains from Sentul Timur to Ampang and Sri Petaling leave at 11.30pm.
Some stations provide feeder bus facilities from the station to nearby neighbourhoods for the convenience of the commuters. The stations providing such services are Sentul, Chan Sow Lin, Maluri, Pandan Jaya, Cempaka, Ampang, Cheras, Salak Selatan, Bukit Jalil and Sri Petaling.

PUTRA-LRT..one of the transportation system

The LRT System 2 known as PUTRA LRT, covers a total distance of 29 km linking the eastern and western suburbs of Kuala Lumpur servicing some of Kuala Lumpur's most affluent and heavily populated areas.
It is using the Advanced Rapid Transit Mark II technology which has been successfully tested and proven in North America and Europe with a very high performance specification specially designed to meet the needs of Kuala Lumpur.
The total alignment which starts from the Depot in Lembah Subang and ends at Terminal PUTRA in Gombak is 29km in length. The construction was divided into two (2) sections: Section 1, which is from Lembah Subang Depot to Pasar Seni Station and Section 2, which is from Pasar Seni Station to Terminal PUTRA.
Featuring the state-of-the-art transport system, The PUTRA LRT operates with 35 two-car units traveling at an average of 40 km per hour. Its initial capacity of 10,000 passengers per hour per direction is expected to increase to 30,000 in the near future. All trains are fully air-conditioned and provide a service level of 90 seconds during peak hours and between 3 minutes (3) to ten (10) minutes during off-peak hours. The service is provided from 6.00 a.m until 12.00 midnight, on Monday - Saturday, and 8.00 a.m. to 11.00 p.m. on Sunday and Public Holidays.
For the convenience of commuters, PUTRA LRT provides dedicated feeder bus service within 3-km radius from each station. Bus schedules are posted at major bus stops. The operational hours coincides with the LRT operation hours.
Currently, PUTRA LRT is the world's longest, fully automatic LRT.

Masterplan of Puduraya station..

The New Puduraya

The 30-year-old Puduraya bus terminal in Kuala Lumpur infamous for congestion, pollution and crime will soon be losing its seedy image once it undergoes a facelift that will see it transformed into a modern inner-city terminal with contemporary design and first- class facilities. The facelift, which is estimated to cost RM31million, with a government funding of RM25million is aimed at providing travellers and visitors a more conducive and comfortable environment. The major upgrade and facelift will include three phases — short, medium and long term that will start immediately and is expected to be completed in November next year.

Upon completion, travellers can expect to see several posh waiting areas with better ventilation and brighter lighting and newer toilets within the building.“Our short-term plans include upgrading the fire-fighting systems, building a sheltered pedestrian walkway from Puduraya to the Plaza Rakyat Star LRT station, upgrading of the toilets and the waiting areas at the mezzanine floor and setting up a taxi coupon system to curb touting. The medium phase will see the lifts upgraded, the construction of tickets counters at Level 1, construction of a food court at Level 4, which is now operating as a car park and replacing the exhaust fans at basement level.Long-ter m plans will see the upgrading of the various waiting areas located at Level 1, mezzanine floor.Ten escalators will be added, as well as lifts for the public and cargo to increase passenger mobility and curb congestion.

UDA Holdings will also be taking over the management of Hotel Puduraya, which will also be upgraded eventually.Apart from the modern facade, traders operating at the terminal will eventually have to be relocated to a more modernised kiosk-like setting. When asked if there would be an increase in rental rates. UDA Holdings would be working together with the Federal Territories Ministry, the Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board under the Prime Minister’s Department and the Finance Ministry to tackle the problems relating to the city’s oldest bus terminal.Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s walkabout session in April, the Puduraya area was identified as a major source of the daily massive traffic congestion in Kuala Lumpur and that immediate steps were needed to improve the situation.

Transport hub can reduce puduraya traffic jam

Traffic congestion near Puduraya bus terminal will be reduced once the Bandar Tasik Selatan (BTS) integrated transport terminal is opened next year.Terminal would cater for buses to all destinations, taking over from crowded Puduraya. The Bandar Tasik Selatan terminal is an integrated hub for buses to destinations nationwide meant for the convenience of passengers.
The BTS integrated terminal would be an expanded version of the RM570-million Bandar Tasik Selatan terminal originally built for south bound express buses. Thus, with the opening of BTS terminal, Puduraya would only cater to city buses and taxis.BTS terminal will be accessible via the Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2) and Besraya highways supported by the LRT, Komuter and Express Rail Link.Meanwhile, Puduraya would undergo a facelift to upgrade services as it prepares to become a city terminal. They include a new coat of paint, upgrading of pedestrian walks from Plaza Rakyat LRT station to Puduraya, upgrading of lifts and toilets and new fire prevention equipment.

Saturday, August 29, 2009

I think a new location for a terminal is so suitable. Bandar Tasik Selatan is a town near a city of Kuala Lumpur, basicly has a complete infrastructure and facilities. It could reduce a trafically problems in Puduraya, and maybe would become main terminal for buses and taxis in Klang Valley after Puduraya. The common problem that we can see at Puduraya is :

1) Trafic become more busiest everyday because Puduraya located at main road in K.L

2 )It is a centre for the almost buses services entire peninsular Malaysia

3 )Less parking lot for those want to take people around Puduraya, and many illegal stall exist make a surrounding more bad.

4 )Crime increase at there so it look like the condition not safety especially for a tourist.

5 )Terminal building look old, worst envirenment not like KLCC and other places that attract peoples.

Many more bad thing happen there, so the goverment should take an action and conclusion for this problem.
